Bringing 1890s Dundee Horse Drawn Tramcar number 24 back home

On Saturday 18 January 2014 a team from Dundee Museum of Transport, with tremendous assistance from Nixon Hire Dundee, travelled to Perth where Dundee's only surviving horse-drawn tramcar had been found in a back garden being used as a summerhouse.

Back in 1971 this had been identified at tram number 24 by transport expert Alan Brotchie who found the markings underneath the paintwork. Recently the owner generously agreed to donate the tram to Dundee Museum of Transport and so a major operation swung into action to lift the carriage out of the garden with as little disruption as possible.

For more information about the tram, a selection of photographs and a video of the move please visit our Restorations Gallery.
